A 60 seater passenger plane belonging to Rwanda Air has today morning skided off the runway at Entebbe Airport.

However, all the flight crew and the attendants got off the plane without any harm. The RwandAir flight RWD 464 was coming from Nairobi and failed to land safely at Entebbe at about 5:31am.

Of the 60 people aboard, its reported that 20 of them were coming to attend the first son, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s 48th birthday that is slated for 23rd and 24th April.

Furthermore, its claimed that these were all ladies invited personally by Muhoozi.

Muhoozi is expected to throw a big birthday bash with a kasiki first set to happen at Lugogo Cricket Oval. The likes of Dr Jose Chameleone, Bebe Cool among others are expected to entertain the guests.

President Paul Kagame of Rwanda is also expected to attend the birthday dinner at State House on the 24th of April.

Meanwhile Muhoozi also said that former Miss Rwanda Ms Jolly Mutesi an old friend of his would also grace the occasion.

Investigations are still ongoing to establish the cause of the unfortunate incident. Poor markings on the new runaway and the heavy torrential rains have however been partly blamed.

“RwandAir flight WB464 upon landing at Entebbe International Airport early this morning was involved in a runway excursion as a result of bad weather. All passengers and flight crew deplaned safely with no reported injuries,” Rwanda Air said in a statement.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Uganda said that the second (alternate) runway 12/30 was operational for small and light aircraft.

“All efforts are underway to remove the aircraft from the runway strip so that the main runway can return to full use,” the aviation authority said in a statement.

A similar incident happened in January 2019 when the Ethiopian airlines Boeing 737-800) that had 139 people on board skidded off the runway at 12:41 am.
