The National Unity Platform has vowed to maintain Mityana Municipality MP Hon Francis Zaake as their Commissioner of Parliament.

It should be recalled that Zaake was impeached from this role after 155 MPs voted to have him ousted in a vote that was boycotted by majority Opposition legislators.

Zaake was accused of abusing Parliament codes of ethics after he insulted the Deputy Speaker of Parliament through his social media pages.

Despite being told to publicly apologize for his actions, Zaake refused to do it saying that he had done nothing wrong.

The time given to him elapsed and he got removed from his role with NUP being told to forward another candidate for the job.

NUP has however said that Zaake was illegally removed and they still consider him their Commissioner of Parliament. This is the reason they will still forward his name for the job as NUP president Hon Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine said.

“My stand on Honorable Zaake’s plight, I have been numerously been well represented by our leaders…by the office of the Leader of Opposition and I don’t defer from that position. The censure was irregular and the process was done in an illegal manner. As far as we are concerned, the Honorable Francis Zaake is our Commissioner,” Kyagulanyi said.

According to Kyagulanyi, the Deputy speaker of Parliament wasn’t proper to preside over the matter which she was a subject in. This was therefore a conflict of interest.

Zaake’s case was brought to Parliament attention by Bardege-Layibi Division MP, Martin Ojara Mapenduzi who wanted to move a motion targeting the removal of Zaake from his role as the Commissioner of Parliament.

Meanwhile Zaake filed a petition in the Constitutional Court challenging the way he was removed from his role.

Zaake says that he went to Court to defend the constitution and not himself.
