Zziwa Rhino Sanctuary is 176 km north of Kampala on the Gulu highway. It was established in 1997 to replenish the Rhino population in Uganda after local extinction with the last Rhino Killed in Murchison falls in 1982.its a one day trip that lasts 1 to 2 hours.

This 70km2 Sanctuary now hosts abig number of Rhino population from initially 6.

The Sanctuary aims to hosting at least 30 Black Rhinos and 20 white rhinos before they can release them to parks.

Activities at the Zziwa Rhino Sanctuary include:

  • Rhino trekking, an excursion that takes an average of 1-2 hours
  • Nature walks.
  • Birding for the bird lovers, rich populations of birds can be found here.
  • Shoe bill canoe ride.
